The American Wind Symphony at Battery Park
May 25th, 2007 12:24 PM

The American Wind Symphony will perform at Apalachicola’s Battery Park Sunday, May 27th, at 7:30 pm.

The Point Counterpoint a 195 foot barge design by famed architect Louis Kahn, plays stage to the 40 American Wind Symphony musicians that have delighted audiences for 51 years. Conductor Robert Boudreau built the vessel that brings the symphony to waterfront communities around the world.

The concert is free and guests are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets. For more information contact the Apalachicola Bay Chamber of Commerce at (850) 653-9419.

Beach Renourishment Update
May 2nd, 2007 4:58 PM

The Florida Department of Environmental Protection is considering reclassifying a portion of Bald Point beach from “Critically Eroding” to “Non-critically eroding” which may affect the state’s matching funds available for that portion of the renourishment project. The state funding of over $3 million for the original project designed to protect the Alligator Point Road east of the South Shoal development is secure and still in place.

The section of the beach that is subject to reclassification is located north and east of the end of Gulf Shore Blvd and around the point where the Point Lounge was located before it was destroyed by fire. The area is shown in the following picture.

The Alligator Point Taxpayer’s Association is seeking assistance from concerned citizens to contact state officials in support of maintaining the “Critically Eroding” classification for the section of beach. Please follow this link for the contact information for the appropriate state officials.State Officials Contact List_revised.pdf

Progress continues on the South Shoal project with all of the water lines and storm sewers installed. We are settling into our new office on top of the hill and adding some decks and porches to make it little more welcoming.

Although we need rain, the lack of rain and calm seas has made for some of the clearest water around Alligator Point that I can ever remember in 16 years.

Fishing has been fantastic for those lucky enough to go. Grouper are biting in 50 feet of water and deeper. Red Snapper are being caught in the same area, and inshore fish seem to be every where.

There is lots of interest in real estate. We are showing property almost everyday, and a few offers have been made.

Please let us know if there is anything we can do for you here.
